Increasing collaboration between foundations, family offices, and DFIs to support local impact funds in emerging markets
International Finance Corporation, Proparco, Capria and other leading impact investors are convening an invite-only event that aims to develop strategies for significantly increasing investment by private foundations, fund-of-funds, family offices, and DFIs in local funds in emerging markets. Building on findings from our first Collaborative Capital meeting in San Francisco, we will again bring together key players for a productive discussion, resulting in concrete collaborations to help effectively increase the velocity and quantum of investment to address the global missing middle.
In cooperation with IFC’s Annual SME Ventures Forum, we will also provide an opportunity for participants to meet select indigenous fund managers from different regions to better understand their on-the-ground challenges and opportunities.
When: Thursday, March 16, 2017, 8:00 am – 7:00 pm
Where: 5 rue Roland Barthes, Paris, France
Who: This event brings together select principals from DFIs, family offices, private foundations and fund-of-funds, as well as a small number of GPs operating funds in emerging markets.
Why: Impact investors are deploying different strategies to address the missing middle in emerging markets. All of us want to see investments of hundreds of millions of dollars translating into the generation of billions in revenue, mass job creation, and providing access to products and services that can scale and improve the lives of millions. We strongly believe that local funds stand at the nexus of identifying and supporting the most promising entrepreneurs and companies. Yet, DFIs and other investors are often reticent to invest in first-time or even second-time managers, often waiting for hard proof of viability. Together, we can identify ways that private and public sector investors can feel more confident about either investing in, or co-investing with, local intermediaries in order to deploy the billions in capital needed to address the missing middle in the years to come.
